May Day Greetings

1 May 2012

On this ancient Celtic festival day of Latha Bealltainn, the socialist republican group Saorsa sends our solidarity greetings to the international workers movement and to all our comrades involved in the struggle against capitalism and imperialism.

Ours is a struggle which knows no boundaries, a struggle being
waged by the peoples globally against the same foes; whose enemies remain united against us in defence of their spoils. For make no mistake about it this is a war, a class war, in which our enemies have been victorious for too long.

But comrades we bring a message of hope that this age nears its
end, that from the current crisis in the global capitalist- imperialist system can be born a new era of human progress where, by working collectively and co-operatively, we can banish from human history such concepts as war, poverty and hunger.

Comrades such an era can only come through the fight against  imperialism. Here in Scotland it can only come through the struggle for socialism and the establishment of the Workers
Republic.

As Socialists we are prepared to do all we can to achieve for our
motherland her rightful heritage – independence; but we shall not abate one jot or title of the claims of social justice in order to conciliate the privileged classes.

We further claim that there can be No British Solution to Scotland’s ‘national question’, be that through Calman, Devo-Max, Indy-Light or any other such federalist concept. The Scotland we seek is one freed from the shackles of Britain’s Bloody Empire, freed from the history of imperialism and oppression, freed from the shameful history of the so-called ‘Scottish Regiments’ and their role in spreading and maintaining the global reach of British capitalism.

Neither is the Scotland we seek in thrall to the global corporations,
prostituting itself as a low tax haven for the greed of the imperialist
system.

Our Scotland is one where our abundant material resources are put to use for the common good of all. One where our people no longer toil for the benefit of a small parasitical class, but who share in the rewards from our collective wealth through increased leisure time and other such measures that enable us to be masters of our own destiny. Because as the great communist revolutionary John MacLean put it, “We  are out for life and all that life can give us.”

Another Scotland is possible.
Another Scotland is essential

An Appeal for Republican Unity

4 Feb 2011

Saorsa is pleased to announce the launch of Spairn, a web-based Scottish republican publication. Whilst the decision to launch the publication has been taken by members of Saorsa it is our objective to provide in Spairn an open-forum whereby all strands of republicanism in Scotland can organise and debate in a fraternal manner.

EXPLANATION

Unfortunately, due to circumstances outwith our control including the harassment of our members by British Crown Forces, it has not been possible
for us to keep up the maintenance of this site.

As we have made clear our objective is the establishment of a Workers’ Republic in Scotland. We believe that the best means of achieving this
is the building of a genuine anti-imperialist coalition comprised of all the revolutionary sections of the working class and republican movements

Whilst falling short of our hopes, we strongly welcome any moves to bring some degree of united action amongst various sections of these groups and can only hope that such moves will be the beginning of a much wider vision of what our forces could achieve.

Whether these efforts will come to fruition or be lost amongst the necessary self-interest of the multitude of various organisations only time can tell. Our door is always open.

Victory can be ours
Unity Is Strength
